Essential Intent

The vision of Chatham Middle School is to provide a secure, stimulating learning environment in which students find both challenge and support. Our school fosters a fundamental respect for oneself, the environment, and the world's diverse population, while recognizing the unique and complex nature of the middle school student. Chatham Middle School offers broad exposure to, and opportunities for, exploration so that individual interests and strengths can be developed. We encourage intellectual risk-taking, responsibility for one's actions, and the development of strong inter-personal relationships. Our school promotes learning that is relevant and establishes connections to the outside world, so that students may become successful, responsible and contributing citizens.

Essential Intent

The philosophy of the counseling program in the School District of the Chathams is that school counseling is an essential, integral part of the educational process. Counselors provide comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. As student advocates, counselors recognize the uniqueness, dignity and personal worth of each individual. In an interactive process, the counselor facilitates student academic achievement. Counselors work collaboratively with students, parents, educators and community members to support each student's ability to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

House A Counselor

  • Mrs. Stephanie Montefinese, Ed.M.

    Steph

I am thrilled to be the House A school counselor for the 2016-2017 school year. This is my eigth year as a school counselor and I have enjoyed becoming a part of The School District of the Chathams.  I received my B.A. in Child Development at Florida State University and my Masters in Counseling Psychology from Rutgers University.  I am the advisor for WAAG (We're All Animal Guardians).  As the school counselor, moving up with the students from 6th grade to 8th grade allows for the opportunity to become part of the students middle school careers and I look forward to being an element of that growth.  This year I will be working with the students on their emotional, social, and academic concerns and development.  I will be able to aid in the development of their life skills and make this stepping stone in their lives as smooth as possible. I am here to assist with any concerns or issues that arise throughout the year. I am going to work closely with the students, parents, teachers, community, and administration to allow for a united and progressive year to come.

My door is ALWAYS open to any challenges that students are facing. It is my hope this year that each student will grow emotionally, socially, and academically with the involvement of my care and assistance. Please feel free to contact me via email at smontefinese@chatham-nj.org or phone at (973) 457-2500 ext. 3018.  Hopes for another wonderful year at Chatham Middle School!!
