Author Nick Bruel visited SBS yesterday and talked to students about how to write stories and illustrate books. Author's day is always a highlight of the year!





Mark your calendars the District Art Show is May 20 and 21st from 6:30-8:30 P.M. We are excited to announce special hours for Senior Citizens. Seniors are invited on May 21 from 10 AM - 12 PM. Student artists will act as docents during the Senior viewing hours.





School calendar has been updated to reflect unused snow days. School will be closed Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24. MAS, SBS & WAS will have an early dismissal on May for kindergarten screenings.


Reminder tonight is the Reorganization & Regular Board of Education Meeting in the CHS Auditorium at 7:30 P.M.


Meteorologist, John Marshall, visited SBS this week to teach students about the weather. Marshall taught students about different types of clouds and the science of the weather events. He also showed them the tools a meteorologist uses to make their weather forecast. Students had the opportunity to deliver the five day forecast and report on significant weather events such as hurricanes and tornados. Marshall also challenged students' geographical knowledge, asking them to find our home state and then identify different states where certain weather events occur. Students also got to see that you become invisible when you wear green against the green screen. This assembly was made possible by donations to the SBS PTO.


Our 3rd graders performed a wonderful spring concert last week! The concert video is now posted in the news section of the website. We look forward to hearing their beautiful voices at LAF. Students will learn about the applied music offerings at LAF in the upcoming weeks and we hope your students will take advantage of these opportunities next year.




Students at SBS learned about the solar eclipse through special classroom lessons and activities throughout the day. . All students received glasses to safely view the eclipse and enjoyed watching the celestial event with their teachers and classmates immediately prior to dismissal.

The Chatham High School club Students Against Cancer will host the Second Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23 from 3pm to 5 pm in the High School cafeteria. Entry is $25 per child and includes basket making, toys, crafts, coloring, bake sale and of course the egg hunt. Please RSVP to Amanda Sproviero at asproviero@chatham-nj.org by March 18th with number and ages of children attending.


SBS students were all smiles last Friday for Social and Emotional Learning Day! Students have the opportunity to mix it up by meeting new friends and engage in different activities throughout the day.




Yesterday was the annual District Choral Festival. Backtrack worked with students in each grade level individually then as a combined group to record a song. Students also learned beat boxing techniques and how to incorporate them nto musical pieces. District Choral day is made possible by a grant from the Cahtham Education Foundation Ryan T. Ganley Memorial Fund (Metviner Family).

School District of the Chathams welcomes Holocaust Survivor Maud Dahme back to present to parent and community members on the evening of Thursday, March 7 at 7 PM in the Chatham High School Auditorium. Maude Dahme has a remarkable and inspiring story that we are excited to share with the community at large. This program is made possible by the Chatham Education Foundation and the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education.


Students at SBS completed 2,701 challenges and read a total of 54,020 minutes for "I Love to Read Week". As an extra element of fun, one student got to "Pie the Principal" at the completion of the challenge.
